Watched Hamnet on Friday night, and I agree that Jesse Buckley is a slam dunk, but I have to disagree about Best Picture. I think Hamnet will take it. And I think that Sinners and One Battle After Another might split the vote for that type of movie. Both of them were, in my mind, kind of schizophrenic. Meaning the first part was one movie the second part was another.
Hamnet makes people cry. A lot. And that often indicates Best Picture.
As for Best Director, it’s very hard for the Academy to give that to a woman so who knows? Looking forward to the show.
For me, I like to see the movies I love get rewarded so more of them will get made. Also, people have strong attachments to things that move them, whatever the source.
For the first time I haven’t seen one of the movies.
You're the second person to tell me that here. It's probably because we're spoiled by the streaming services.
I haven’t seen even one.
Are you anti-American or just antisocial?
Both. Ask a tougher question next time

Interesting analysis on the split vote. We’ll soon see.
I never have understood why anyone who doesn’t directly benefit from an Oscar cares who wins.

I like seeing the actors and others involved
Good analysis. Did you use Chat for that?
Nope. But you can be sure I used it to help research my column. (Brando's eight-page statement, etc.)
I hope you asked if it was making that up.
